Checking out what’s happening at De Biertuin Prinsengracht in Amsterdam

There’s a lot of beers — both draught and bottle — possibly 100-130 or so, mostly Dutch and Belgium, with a fridgeful of Yeastie Boys UK thrown into the mix for some antipodean fun.  And there’s BrewDog, of course,  but that’s tediously everywhere nowadays.

There are about 30 taps including the interesting-looking Hopinator, seemingly infusing beer with what appears to be various exotic fruits.  And it wouldn’t be central Amsterdam without the omnipresent Jagermeister dispenser catering to the late-night revellers that presumably arrive en masse after dark.

For a beer bar a few steps from Leidsestraat, close to Leidseplein and its oft not-so-discerning drinkers, this place is a diamond in the rough.  Kaeru Beer recommends it if you’re in the area and would like some great (craft) beers served with a relaxing, unconditional attitude in a relaxing, unconditional environment.

If anything, the beer choice is a little staid for the hardcore beer-hunters, but not everybody is as nerdy as us.  The choice is far superior to many comparable bars, anyway.

This place is definitely on our map now, and we’ll be back when we’re next in the area.  It’s a pre-Melkweg, pre-Paradiso delight.
